Rice paper screen and futons on the floor and serenity at its best are
what is offered in this hand-picked collection of 30 traditional Japanese inns.
The idea of 'omotenashi', hospitality with the special Japanese attention to every
little detail has survived for over 1,000 years in traditional inns that in essence have changed little in that time. Adherence
to the importance of symbolism and simplicity remains important, however
luxurious the trappings. New to the collection are Ryokan-Kurashiki, originally
the home of a rich sugar merchant, and L'hotel Du Lac on the shores of Lake
Biwa.
